Frequently Asked Questions
I already have a support person. Why do I also need a doula?
One of the benefits of a doula is that they aren’t emotionally tied up in your birth the same way your partner or mom is. Doulas experience emotion, of course, and may even show it. But they are not paralyzed or confused by it the way someone who is part of your daily life may be.
This is one reason why you need a doula’s care, even if you have an awesome partner.
Doulas are a great help and support for partners and help them be more involved in the birth. Sometimes they need some help being there and to find their role and place during birth.
Moms and in-laws are tricky too. Sometimes moms can feel the way they gave birth is the correct way. A doula is there to make sure your needs are met and you are empowered to make decisions that are best for you. It's never about the Doula. It's about you and your needs. I am here to help you be completely satisfied with your birth experience, whatever that may be.

Aren't Doulas only for "crunchy" moms?
Any woman who experiences labor would benefit from a Doula. Think of it as your non-judgemental friend who helps you with anything you need. It doesn't matter if your labor is medicated or not, long or not, difficult or not, a scheduled c-section or a home birth, Doulas make the journey better.
Doulas will help even if you can't leave the bed because of an epidural. We can help with movement to keep baby progressing, comfort, massage, or just helping your partner know what to do. You name it. We are by your side during the entire process. Keeping you calm and focused.
Are you ready?
Doulas are normally hired in the 2nd trimester giving us time to prepare a birth plan, learn about options and get you ready. If you think you would benefit from a doula (spoiler alert, you will) then let's chat! In our first no -obligation phone call, I will answer any questions and set up a time to meet in person and see if we are a good fit.
